Halloween Adventures in Dracula’s Homeland

Sink your teeth into historic tales of mystery on this whirlwind journey across Transylvania, featuring tours of castles, monasteries and legends.

About Your Trip

If you dare, brave the haunted castles and estates throughout Transylvania and follow the bloody history of Romania's most ruthless dictator on this Halloween DreamTrip for guests ages 15 years and older.

Celebrate Halloween by partying all night at Hunyad’s Castle (or Corvin Castle), the place where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned before forming an alliance with John Hunyadi, the Hungarian military leader responsible for the execution of Vlad’s father. The residual atmosphere of the castle is one of haunted betrayal — perfect for Halloween night. Prepare for a night of costumed pageantry, medieval live Romanian folk music and shows, and delicious food in what’s considered to be Romania’s most haunted castle. At midnight, Count Dracula himself will invite you to his wedding. Declining the invitation isn’t an option!

When you’re not partying with Dracula, you’ll visit Poienari Castle, known as the real castle of Dracula (Vlad Tepes), standing on a cliff but now in ruins. You’ll continue to Sibiu, and walk through Old Town to see St. Ursuline Church, Brukenthal National Museum — housing more than 1,200 works — and much more. Then, stop in Alba Iulia and visit the Orthodox Cathedral before feasting on a medieval lunch at a local pub. Continue to the walled city of Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage site boasting 16th-century architecture.

Your fascinating journey across Transylvania isn’t over yet. Get ready for an exclusive private nighttime tour of Transylvania’s Bran Castle — this monumental fortress was rumored to be the inspiration for setting of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” — followed by a visit to Dracula's grave and a panoramic tour of Bucharest.

What we love:
• In Latin, Transylvania means “land beyond the forest.” The area is well-known for plentiful flora.
• Bran Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle, houses a museum that displays art and furniture collected by Queen Marie, who reigned from the late 19th century to early 20th century.
• Sighisoara is the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the violent Prince of Romania who inspired Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.”

Destination

The riverside burg of Bucharest, the capital and largest Romanian city, displays neo-classical, Bauhaus and Art Deco architecture, as well as communist-era and modern structures. First mentioned in documents in 1459, it is now a thriving metropolis of nearly 2 million people. Bucharest is known for its robust collection of art, music and history museums, former Communist strongholds and hearty Eastern European cuisine.

Transylvania is a region in Romania shrouded in mystery within the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains. During the 15th century, Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad Dracula, was an infamous, bloodthirsty dictator. Today, Transylvania takes advantage of its fictional vampiric past to attract thousands of tourists each year. Notable monuments of the region include the impressive Biserica Neagra (Black Church) and the ominous Bran Castle. Additionally, Hunyad’s Castle is the place where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned before forming an alliance with John Hunyadi, the Hungarian military leader responsible for the execution of Vlad’s father.
